The DBVERIFY Utility
Published by : Obay Salah , November 19, 2024
It is a tool that works on the operating system to verify the Data Files, allowing this tool to check the Data Files during its use.
It can also verify the Image Copies that were created through User-managed Backup or RMAN. However, this tool cannot be used to verify Online Redo Log Files, Archive Redo Log Files, Control Files, or RMAN Sets Backup.
This tool can verify the Data File whether it is stored as a File System, in Automatic Storage Management (ASM), or as a Raw Device.
You can run this tool by typing the command DBV
from the prompt and then specifying the Data File you want to verify, or from the path ORACLE_HOME%\bin\dbv.exe
in Windows, or from the path ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbv
in UNIX operating systems.
Generally, if you are performing a backup of Data Files using RMAN, you do not need to use DBVERIFY, because RMAN performs this verification.
